AfroBasket 2021 qualifiers: Robinson Opong superb as Silverbacks outclass Morocco

The Uganda senior national basketball team, the Silverbacks claimed their first win of the 2021 AfroBasket qualifiers in Egypt, outclassing Morocco 94-90 on Saturday night.

The Silverbacks went into the game having lost their opener against hosts, Egypt 96-77 on Friday night and needed a response in order to improve on their hopes of a third straight qualification for the AfroBasket finals and that they did as they won two of the 3 quarters of the game.

Robinson Opong shot 7-for-12 from the 3-point to record a game high 29 points. Jimmy Enabu had 16 points while Ishmail Wainwright and Deng John Geu managed 14 points each.

Opong scored 16 of his 29 points in the third quarter to propel Uganda to a 10-point lead before the last quarter at 74-64.

For Morocco, Mohammed Choua had a double-double (25 points and 14 rebounds), while Abdelkarim El Haoua and Yassine Haila had 20 points each.

The Silverbacks will now return to action tomorrow, Sunday night as they face Cape Verde in the last game of this qualification window.
