It’s already one year since the Cranes last played a game at nambole. Uganda beat Cape Verde 1-0 to qualify for the African cup of nations.
It was Patrick Henry Kaddu then playing in the Uganda premier League who scored the only goal at Nambole that put Uganda through to the final tournament that was held in Egypt.
This time, the StarTimes Uganda Premier league has 5 players who are in camp for a chance to feature in tomorrow’s game against Malawi.
These include; Charles Lukwago, Nicholas Kasozi and Allan Okello who play for KCCA FC, alongside Halid Lwalilwa and Fahad Bayo who play for Vipers SC.
Uganda played the first game of qualification away to Burkina Faso which ended in a draw, but none of these players got a minute of playing time.
Save for the first fixture away in Ouagadougou, at home, the coach Johny McKinstry could make a few changes with the reduced pressure.
Who the players that could feature in today’s match against Malawi?
Vipers’ goal poacher Fahad Bayo is one of the few local players that may be given a chance to play.
Bayo is currently amongst the League top scorers with 8-goals had had already opened up his account for the Cranes during the CHAN qualifiers. This could be an influencing factor for him to play, or at least come off the bench.
KCCA FC’s creative midfielder Allan Okello May also get a chance to feature in today’s game due to his creativity in the midfield and has been one of the best players locally for the past 4 seasons, including his exploits in the CHAN 2020 qualifiers.
Due to the competition in positions, the rest of the the Uganda premier League players that is Nicholas Kasozi Charles Lukwago And Halid Lwalira May not have a chance to play today.
This is going to be Uganda’s second qualification match in group B having managed a goalless draw in the first one away at Burkina Faso.
Uganda will be looking for maximum points against Malawi.
