2022 Commonwealth Games: She Cranes finish fifth after SouthAfrica win

The She Cranes, Uganda’s National Netball team won a game against South Africa in a long while to become Africa’s number one and also finish fifth at the NEC Complex in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham.

Uganda won the game 54 goals to South Africa’s 48. After two back to back wins against Malawi and South Africa respectively this win sees Head Coach Fred Mugerwa’s side finish fifth at the tournament.

The most goals were put up by Mary Nuba, 31 goals with Irene Eyaru assisting 21 and Shadia Nassanga adding the two for a win on Friday something that shows how far our team has moved on from the main big name, Peace Proscovia.

Before the above two games, Uganda had finished third in the group losing to New Zealand in the first game, winning the second against Trinidad & then lost to the hosts England later on winning against Northern Ireland something that did not fuel our chances to go to the semi-finals.

With help of the Technical team led  coach Fred Mugerwa we shall have have to appreciate and accept the transition of players in the team something, that will  uncover more home grown talent.

With some players having made their debut on such a Championship, She Cranes as a team will hope to build from such a display. .

There is  hope that some of the playing at home including will earn themselves deals abroad. The She Cranes will participate in the upcoming Vitality International series tournament in October, England.

This will also be a more showcasing ground for the girls most especially if they will have not gotten Clubs abroad.
