The Confederation of African Football (CAF ) has cancelled the 2021 U17 African Cup of Nations which was scheduled to kick off on 13th March 2021 in Morocco.

The decision was made on Monday evening after a CAF emergency committee meeting in Casablanca that discussed the future of the tournament as Morocco tightens measures against the Corona Virus pandemic.

The 2021 edition of the 12 nations tournament was initially scheduled for April this year but was brought forward at Morocco’s request. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 situation can not allow the tournament to be held as planned.

Four nations (Ivory Coast, Uganda, Zambia and Senegal) had arrived in Morocco so far in preparation for the final tournament.

This comes months after the World Football governing body, FIFA cancelled the U20 and U17 World Cup tournaments which were set to take place this year due to the coronavirus.

However, the U20 Tournament was successfully held in Mauritania with Ghana beating debutants Uganda to clinch the 2021 title.
