StarTimes UPL: clash of struggles as Busoga hosts MYDA while URA FC visits Police – a preview of match day 13


The StarTimes UPL last week found a new leader in Express FC who ascended to the summit with a 1-0 win over Busoga United on Friday while the defending champions, Vipers, who were leading on matchday 11 fell flat at Mbarara City.

The StarTimes UPL action continues on Tuesday afternoon with Busoga United hosting fellow Struggling side MYDA FC at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru, for an early kick-off, while at Lugogo will be Police FC taking on URA FC.

Here is a preview of the games that will be played on Tuesday evening.

Busoga United Vs MYDA – FUFA Technical Center, Njeru

Onduparaka vs Busoga United - Startimes UPL

Busoga United will get the proceeding of the match week underway at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru when they host fellow strugglers, MYDA FC.

Both clubs are winless so far this season and are just separated by 1 position on the log with Busoga sitting third-bottom on 5 points, while MYDA are 15th on just three points.

Last result

The home side, Busoga United lost 1-0 to current leaders, Express FC at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium-Wankulukuku courtesy of Frank Kalanda penalty. That was their seventh loss of the season

While MYDA rallied from two goals down to draw 2-all with bottom placed Kitara FC at the King George IV Memorial Stadium, Tororo. Moses Bitali netted a late equaliser for the Malaba based side after Ibrahim Nsimbe pulling a goal back from the penalty spot at the hour mark.


The two sides have never met each other in any competitive match so this will be their first meeting.

What this could mean

A win for the visitors, MYDA FC, would take them above Busoga United on 6 points. But if Busoga United win, they would move to 8 points, three above 13th placed Kyetume FC.

Kyetume Vs KCCA – FUFA Technical Center, Njeru

After the early kick-off game at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru, Kyetume will take to the pitch ‘hosting’ in-form Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).

Kyetume sit just above the relegation zone with 11 points garnered in 12 games, while KCCA FC is 5th on the log with 23 points.

Kyetume are winless in their last seven league games, having lost five games and draw two since they defeated BUL before the league went into the CHAN preparations break in December.

KCCA FC on the other side is on a brilliant burst of form having won their last three games (Kitara, Busoga United and UPDF) with a goal difference of 14-1. Infact they have never lost any single game since they were beaten by BUL 2-1, their first game after the break.

Last result

Kyetume travelled to Ndejje and were humbled 2-0 by the Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club (URA FC) to stretch their away winless record to six games. on the other end, KCCA FC, who was at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo varnished UPDF FC 6-1 courtesy of Sadat Anaku and Charles Lwanga braces.

Head to head

This will be the third meeting between the two sides, with the Kasasiro Boys having won the two games played last season.

Sadat Anaku and Erisa Ssekisambu netted for the Kasasiro Boys the last time they visited the Slaughterers.

What this could mean

Kyetume, who are winless in 7 will seek to collect maximum points this time around and know that a win would take them to the tenth position on the log with 14 points, while KCCA will be hoping to close the gap on the current leaders, Express FC who are just five points above them on 28 points. A win would potentially take them a place up on 26 points, surpassing Police FC.

Onduparaka Vs Mbarara City – AbaBet Greenlight Stadium, Arua

Fresh from ending Vipers’ unbeaten run, Mbarara City head to Arua full of confidence for their league encounter against Onduparaka FC.

The hosts, Onduparaka sit eighth on the log with 18 points, while Mbarara City is 12th with 13 points.

Last result

The Caterpillars travelled to the Kavumba Recreation Center and picked up a comprehensive 1-0 win over Soltilo Bright Stars with Emmanuel Okech scoring their only goal.

On the otherhand, Henry Kitegenyi inspired the Ankole Lions to a surprise 1-0 win over Vipers SC at the Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara handing the visitors their first loss of the season.

Head to Head:

Mbarara City and Onduparaka FC have played against each other 4 times so far in the Uganda Premier league with both side winning once while the remaining two have ended in stalemates.

Onduparaka had to come from a goal down to draw 1-all with Mbarara City in the fixture that was played at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium, Arua last season.

What this could mean

If the caterpillars do win tomorrow, they will move to 6th place on 21 points, surpassing Villa and UPDF in the process. But, a win for the Ankole Lions would take them to 9th position from 12th on the log with 16 points, two below Onduparaka.

UPDF Vs Express – Bombo Military Playground, Bombo

Leaders, Express will make a short trip to Bombo to take on UPDF FC at the Bombo Military barracks playground on Tuesday evening.

Express FC, who are the only side not to have tasted defeat this season sit top of the log on 28 points in their opening 12 games, while, despite having started the league the brightest, UPDF now sit seventh on the log with 18 points.

Express FC are searching for their fourth away win of the campaign and want to stretch their lead to fourth points at the summit of the table, as UPDF seek to return to winning ways after losing their last two games

Last result

UPDF suffered a humiliating 6-1 loss to KCCA FC in their last league game at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, as they conceded four goals in the opening 25 minutes. On the other end, Express FC maintained their unbeaten run in the league with a Frank Kalanda penalty helping them defeat Busoga United 1-0 at the Betway Muteesa Stadium, Wakulukuku to go top.

Head to head

The two sides have 20 times in the league with the Red Eagles picking up 10 wins compared to UPDF’s 7 with 3 draws.

Express defeated UPDF 2-0 in the last game these two sides came up against each other as Michael Birungi and Jalil Zimula were on target.

What this could mean

Express FC seek to extend their unbeaten run to the season to 13 games and in turn stretch their lead atop of the SUPL to 4 points.

UPDF seeks to return to winning ways, having lost to URA and KCCA. A win over the Red Eagles would take them a place up to sixth.

Police Vs URA – MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo

In our last game of the day, 4th placed Police FC will host 3rd placed URA FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in a blockbuster affair.

The two sides are separated by just three points as the Cops are on 24 points, while, URA are on 27 points, tied with defending champions, Vipers SC.

The tax collectors have a brilliant record away from home, having won five and drawn one of their six away games this season, as for the Cops, they are also unbeaten at home, winning five and drawing only once.

Last result

Police travelled to Bombo Military Playground and had to come from a goal behind to secure a 2-all draw with SC Villa with Henry Kisekka netting his first goal for the club.

URA FC, on the other hand, comfortably defeated Kyetume 2-0 at Ndejje University with last season’s topscorer, Steven Mukwala netting his fifth goal of the season.

Head to head

The two sides have met 22 times in the league with the Tax Collectors picking up 12 wins compared to Police’s two and the rest have ended in stalemates.

URA FC are unbeaten in the last eight games they have came up against the Cops, winning five and drawing the other three.

What this could mean

If Express FC fails to beat UPDF FC and URA FC garners a win against Police, the tax collectors will go top of the log as they sit only a point below the Red Eagles.

Police FC, who seek to maintain their unbeaten home start will hope for a win in order to move level on points with URA and Vipers who are tied on 27 points in second and third respectively.
