KCCA FC new signing Yasser Mugerwa has said he wants to take his KCCA back to the CAF Champions league.
Mugerwa joined the Kasasiro Boys on Wednesday evening as a free agent, penning down a two-year deal at the Lugogo based side.
He says he feels great after having signed for one of the biggest clubs in Uganda;
“I feel great to have signed for one of the biggest clubs in Uganda with (a) rich history and good organisation,” Mugerwa told the club website before adding; “My main objective at this club is to help them win the championship (Uganda Premier League) and of course take them back to the CAF Champions League because it’s where the club belongs.”
KCCA FC last featured in the CAF Champions League group stages in 2018 when they beat Ethiopia’s St. George 1-0 aggregate score and have since been the only club from Uganda to manage the feat.
The Yellow Boys have since failed to play at the same level ever again and were eliminated by Congo’s AS Otoho D’oyo on a 3-2 aggregate despite defeating the visitors in Kampala.
KCCA FC will not be competing at the continental level this forthcoming season after failing to secure a spot that could see them earn a place in Africa’s elite competitions after the league was prematurely ended leaving Express FC and URA in first and second respectively to represent the country on the continent.
KCCA FC finished fourth this season behind winners Express FC, URA FC and Vipers SC.
Yasser Mugerwa and Morley Byekwaso won the inaugural CECAFA Nile Basin cup in Sudan after defeating Kenya’s AFC Leopards 2-1 in the finals in 2014.
