Uganda Cranes edged South Sudan 1-0 at Mandela National Stadium on Friday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers campaign.

This was Cranes second win in Group K after beating Congo Brazzaville 2-0 at home and drawing 2-2 away in South Africa to currently cruise to 7 points.

Goal came in from a unusual source in center half Bevis Mugabi who tapped in a Jude Ssemugabi head brush off Allan Okello’s cross two minutes after second stsnza restart.

After the game, Cranes head coach -Paul Joseph Put agreed that his side didn’t start well;

“We spent over an hour in traffic hence arriving late at the stadium, I don’t know if that’s what affected us after the first 10 minutes but the boys gave everything,”

“However we were playing slowly and allowing the opponent to set up, something that was unacceptable changed a few things in the second half got the goal but as you know you with 1-0 you are subjected to pressure but we gadly take the win and build on that in Juba”

When asked about Elio Capradossi and Derrick Nsibambi he added and said;

“With Capradossi to be sincere he doesn’t have a team and hasn’t been playing much so he’s out but I love his leadership and spirit around the group”

“And for Derrick, he’s a player I like so much but felt if we were 2-0 up it would be a good game to bring him on but that wasn’t the case”

Uganda will face South Sudan once again on Tuesday 15th October 2024 at the Juba stadium in Juba.
