Vipers SC have parted ways with head coach Denis Lavagne by mutual consent, ending the Frenchman’s four-month tenure at the Uganda Premier League champions.

The club confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, October 24, 2026, announcing that the separation took immediate effect.

Vipers thanked Lavagne for his services and wished him well in his future career, but did not disclose further details about the decision or name a successor.

Appointed on June 30, 2026, on a two-year contract, Lavagne was tasked with defending Vipers’ domestic title and guiding the club to success in continental competition.

His domestic record stood at three wins, two draws and one defeat in six league matches, yielding 11 points from a possible 18. Vipers scored 13 goals and conceded twice during that run.

The Venoms recorded convincing victories over Ntugasaze FC (3-0), Blacks Power FC (4-0) and Kataka FC (5-0). Their only league defeat came against Entebbe UPPC, while draws against Maroons FC and Police FC saw them drop four additional points.

On the continental stage, Lavagne failed to guide Vipers beyond the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The Ugandan champions drew 1-1 with Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, before a goalless draw in the return leg saw them eliminated on the away-goals rule.

Vipers also fell short at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup in Rwanda, recording wins over Garde Republicaine FC and Gor Mahia before losing 2-1 to APR FC in their final group match.

Lavagne arrived at Kitende with an established coaching pedigree, having won four Cameroonian league titles with Coton Sport and guided the club to the 2008 CAF Champions League final.

His departure leaves Vipers searching for a new head coach as they pursue their domestic ambitions and seek to strengthen their standing in African football.
