Kitara FC hopes of winning the 2023/24 star Times Uganda premier league were stopped in Kavumba Recreation ground after Soltilo Bright stars defeating them 1-0.

Shafic Kakande’s strike into the top right corner of the goal in the first half added minutes helped Bright stars to edge Kitara.

In the first 45 minutes, Bright stars’ Nordeen Bunjo, Nelson Ssenkatuka and Shafic Kakande had alot of goalscoring opportunities putting only one into the back of the net.

Prolific striker, Denis Omedi had a chance to put the visitors into the lead at the start of the game unfortunately his strike from the edge of the box was deflected away from the far post into a corner kick by Innocent Kitimbo.

In an attempt to pull the game into their favor, the Bunyoro side dominated the second half creating a number of chances through Jude Ssemugabi and substitutes, Paul Mucureezi, Kabon Living but their efforts were cooled down by the goalkeeper Hassan Muyomba and his defenders, Andrew Kyambade, Warren Bule, Kitimbo.

Bright stars nearly doubled the lead in the second half through Noorden Bunjo’s eighteen yards box shot but goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba had to punch it above the goal.

The ninth positioned Kavumba side with 35 points will play URA in their final match of the season on 18th May.

In their 4th position with 51 points, The Royals will finish the season against the Jinja side Gaddafi FC in Masindi stadium on 18th May.
