Uganda 249/9 in 50 overs

Bahrain 197 all out in 44.1 overs

Uganda won by 52 runs

After being displaced from the top spot by Hong Kong China and Italy, who secured victories over Singapore and Tanzania respectively, Uganda bounced back with a dominant performance, defeating Bahrain by 52 runs to reclaim the top position in the CWCLB standings.

Uganda now has 11 points and is closely followed by Italy and  Hong Kong China who have 9 points each

The match, held at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong, saw Bahrain win the toss and opt to bowl first in their opening game of the second round of the ICC World Cup Qualifier Challenge League B.

The dry pitch appeared ideal for batting, but Uganda’s lineup featured a few changes: spinners Henry Ssenyondo and Frank Nsubuga, along with wicketkeeper Cyrus Kakuru, were left out, while Bilal Hassun, who joined the team late as a replacement for Joseph Baguma, earned a spot in the starting lineup.

Bahrain entered the tournament without their former captain Haider Ali, who had been a standout performer during the Kampala leg.

In his absence, Ahmer Bin Nasir took over the captaincy.

Uganda’s opening partnership featured Robinson Obuya and Shrideep Mangela, a right-left combination.

The pair managed only two runs from the first over, and by the eighth over, Uganda lost its first wicket as Mangela was trapped LBW by Imran Khan.

Dhawani then entered the crease. After the first power play, Uganda was at 30/1 after 10 overs, with Robinson cruising on 13 off 29 balls.

The momentum shifted when two crucial run-outs—one involving Robinson Obuya and the other Kenneth Waiswa—slowed Uganda’s progress.

Despite the setbacks, Raghavu Dhawani played a resilient knock, top-scoring with 85 off 105 balls.

Additional contributions came from captain Riazat Ali Sha (49 off 55) and Robinson Obuya (43 off 59).

With a modest total to defend, Uganda’s bowlers stepped up.
Juma Miyaji made early breakthroughs, claiming three quick wickets in the first power play, leaving Bahrain at 38/3 after 10 overs.

Although an 114-run partnership between Asif Ali (76) and Sohail Ahmed (36) briefly threatened to derail Uganda’s efforts, the partnership was eventually broken.

Bahrain was bowled out for 197 in 44.1 overs, giving Uganda a 52-run victory to climb back to the top of the table.

Miyaji finished with an impressive 4-wicket haul, while Bilal Hassun and Cosmas Kyewuta each claimed two wickets.

Raghavu Dhawani’s stellar innings earned him the Player of the Match award.

Uganda’s next game is against Singapore on Monday 10th February.
