Uganda Cup Round of 64: Kajjansi United shoots-out star-studded Vipers, Ondu and Busoga also ejected

Kajjansi United FC is through to the next Round the 2020 Stanbic Uganda Cup after shooting out rivals Vipers FC today at the Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The 2016 champions, Vipers SC, were alongside Onduparaka FC and Busoga United eliminated at the round of 64, making it three StarTimes Uganda Premier League teams to be eliminated from this year’s Uganda Cup competition.

The league leaders Vipers should have taken the lead as earlier as possible but Dan Sserunkuma 3rd minute strike was parried away by Kajjansi United shot-stopper Micheal Kajiri.

Kajjansi engineered an attack through Michael Kajiri’s long kick but Umar Kayemba could not pass Vipers skipper Geoffrey Wasswa in the 8th minute.

Kajjansi made another counter-attack through Marvin Nyanzi but his cross could not find his target man Kayemba before being collected by goalkeeper Derrick Ochan in the 10th minute.

Michael Male put the hosts into a deserved lead in the 31st minute with a well-struck shot off a Marvin Nyanzi rebounded shot which hit the woodwork to send into jubilations.

Vipers SC tactician Edward Golola made a quick substitution, withdrawing Ibrahim Tembo for Paul Mucureezi in a bid to bring balance into the game.

Kajjansi could have gone into the break with two goals ahead but because Umar Kayemba lacked composure he failed to beat Vipers’ Ochan in a one on one in the 40th minute.

Vipers made a quick substitution with Umar Kyebatala coming on for the worn-out Denis Mwemezi in the 46th minute. The substitute should have found the back of the net off a Farouk Musisi cross but could only head wide.

Dan Sserunkuma was also withdrawn for Abraham Ndugwa in the 60th minute.

Fahad Bayo leveled the matters for the visiting team in the 72nd minute after slotting in meeting a Paul Mucureezi long cross from the right-wing to restore parity for the venoms. Bayo could have added another just after two minutes but his headed effort hit the woodwork for the Venoms to take a corner kick instead.

Vipers continued attacking with most engineered by Bayo and Kyebatala but the Kajjansi United defense was composed and defended with stealth to send the game into shootouts.

Goal Keeper Micheal Kajiri pulled-off a wonderful save a Umar Kyebatala’s penalty to end the game 8-7 in favor of Kajjansi who make it to the round of 32.

Elsewhere, Busoga United and Onduparaka were also eliminated by Busia young FC and Bugamba respectively.

Busoga United FC was beaten 2-1 by Busia Young at the Busia Integrated Primary School while Onduparaka fell 1-0 to Bugamba FC.
