The Uganda national under-17 football team now know the challenge awaiting them should they overcome Ghana national under-17 football team in the decisive FIFA U17 World Cup qualification playoff at the ongoing U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Following the official draw for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup, Uganda have been placed in Group C alongside Argentina, Australia and Denmark — but only if the Cubs defeat Ghana and secure qualification for the global showpiece.
The tournament will be hosted in Qatar from November 19 to December 13, 2026, and will feature an expanded format of 48 teams for the first time in the competition’s history.
Uganda are seeking a second consecutive appearance at the FIFA U17 World Cup after making a memorable debut at the 2025 edition in Qatar. The Cubs impressed on the global stage by progressing to the knockout rounds, highlighted by a famous victory over France national under-17 football team during the group stage.
Their impressive performances elevated Uganda’s status in youth football and showcased the growing development of young talent in the country.
Should the Cubs overcome Ghana in the playoff, they will face another stern test in Group C against football powerhouse Argentina, as well as Australia and Denmark, two nations with strong youth football traditions and consistent appearances at FIFA competitions.
