Ugandan goalkeeper Ismail Watenga has made a return to the BetKing Ethiopian Premier League, Touchline Sports sources can confirm.
Watenga rejoins Ethiopian Coffee on a one-year loan move from South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Ethiopian club tried to sign Aishi Manula from Simba but they weren’t able to capture the goalkeeper due to the high transfer fees involved so they reached an agreement with Sundowns for Watenga’s loan return.
The Ugandan goalkeeper is expected to be unveiled as Ethiopia Coffee new addition in the next coming few days.
Watenga featured for Addis Ababa based side in the 2018/19 season but his stay there didn’t last too long as he left the club just after one year for Sofapaka FC.
From Sofapaka, he joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020 before he was sent on loan to Chippa United that same year.
Having spent 18 months at Chippa, the former Vipers SC goalkeeper played a total of 24 games and kept 10 clean sheets in process.
Watenga was set to join Marumo Gallants on loan this coming season but the move is said to have fell through at the eleventh hour.
Last season, Ethiopian Coffee finished sixth on the log with 42 points in 30 games.
