The StarTimes UPL was controversially concluded by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) with the decision that awarded Vipers their 4th title since promotion to the top tier league.
In this article, we get to review the numbers that defined Vipers 2019/20 StarTimes UPL title win.
Vipers Sports Club has now won as many league titles as URA FC (4). Only Sports Club Villa (16), KCCA FC (13), and Express FC (6) have lifted the Uganda Premier League trophy more times in the history of Uganda football.
Vipers’ performance index based on the number of points taken (54) in the number of games played (25) is 2.16. They finish ahead of KCCA FC (2.00) and SC Villa (1.84).
Vipers SC has now won three of the last six league titles (2014–15, 2017–18, 2019-20) with KCCA FC taking the other three (2015–16, 2016–17, 2018–19).
Halid Lwaliwa and Geoffrey are the two players at the club to have participated in all of those three-title-winning campaigns.
Vipers scored 38 goals in 25 games, an average of 1.52 goals per game, which is higher than last season (1.3).
Abraham Ndugwa scored the first goal of the season for Vipers in a 3-1 win against Brightstars FC, and he scored the last goal of the season for the champions in a 5-0 win against Maroons FC.
KCCA (1-0), SC Villa (0-1), and URA (3-1) were the only teams to beat Fred Kajoba’s men in league play in 2019-20.
Pual Willa was the most-used player by Vipers with 24 games. Fabian Mutombora, Fahad Bayo, and Geoffrey Wasswa come next with 22, 21, and 15 games respectively.
Derrick Ochan made the most bench appearances 20, Brian Nkuubi and Dan Sserunkuma come close with 18 and 13 appearances respectively.
Fahad Bayo scored 12 goals, that’s 31% of Vipers SC goals, the highest figure compared to Dan Sserukuma and Tito Okello’s 7.8%.
Vipers SC has lost three games this season, which is exactly the same number of games they lost last season.
The Venoms have also registered 16 wins this season, the same number of games they won last season.
Vipers have received a total of 28 yellow cards with Fahad Bayo and Aziz Kayondo registering more cards 3, two Vipers SC players have received marching orders (Red Card) this season, Farouk Musisi and Fahad Bayo.
