StarTimes UPL recap: Police maintains unbeaten start, KCCA and UPDF lose as Matchday IV concludes

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League matchday four saw record champions Sports Club Villa end the Kasasiro Boys’ unbeaten run in the league after an entertaining 2-1 win for the Jogoos in Bombo.

And away in the east, UPDF FC also succumbed to a late Kyetume FC penalty while Abdallah Mubiru’s side Police FC managed to maintain their unbeaten run as by defeating Busoga United to go top of the table.

Here is a recap from the matchday IV games.

SC Villa 2-1 KCCA FC – Bombo Military grounds

It was an end to an unbeaten run as the Joggos bossed KCCA FC to a 2-1 loss in the Kampala derby played in Bombo on Tuesday evening.

Edward Kaziba’s charges dominated the Kasasiro Boys’, right from the start of the game and broke the deadlock in the first half from a Nicholas Kabonge well-taken shot from outside the penalty area which left Charles Lukwago startled. Ronald Ssekiganda doubled the lead for the hosts late in the second half capitalizing on the defensive mistake by Peter Magambo.

Brian Aheebwa scored a consolation goal for KCCA FC from the following a tussle with Moses Kiggundu that led to a penalty.

Soltilo Bright Stars 3-2 MYDA FC – Kavumba Recreation grounds

Soltilo Bright Stars rallied from two goals down to subject MYDA to their third consecutive league loss of the season.

MYDA took the lead through Joseph Wahampi and Ibra Nsimbe but in the second half, Ronald Sempala inspired the Mwererwe based side with a brace to level matters before Ibrahim Kasinde secured all three for the hosts in added time.

BUL FC 0-2 URA FC – FUFA technical centre Njeru

Two second-half goals from last season’s top scorer Steven Mukwala are what URA FC needed to overcome a resilient Bidco Uganda Limited (BUL) team in Njeru on Tuesday.

With the first half ending goalless, Mukwala took on the mantle to net his first in the 77th minute before completing his brace just at the death of the game.

Onduparaka 1-1 Wakiso Giants – Greenlight Stadium, Arua

The purple sharks visited Onduparaka FC at Greenlight Stadium with almost half of their starting lineup having once played for the Caterpillars.

It was Onduparaka that broke the deadlock early in the second half through Kabon Livin, but his strike was cancelled out two minutes afterwards by Hassan Wasswa Dazo.

Onduparaka had a chance to secure a win through a late penalty but Derrick Emukule made a save to ensure that the game would end in a stalemate.

Police FC 3-0 Busoga United – MTN Omondi Stadium,Lugogo

Police FC maintained their unbeaten run to the start of the season with a 3-0 thumping of Busoga United at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Ben Ocen, Derrick Kakooza and Mubarak Nsubuga, all found the back of the net to propel the Cops to a top spot on the StarTimes UPL log.

Mbarara City 1-1 Express FC – Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara

The Red Eagles failed to hold onto an early lead to draw 1-all with Mbarara City FC at the Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara

Express took the lead in the 23rd minutes through Godfrey Lwesibawa’s freekick but succumbed to an equaliser in the 77th minute by Souleyman Bamba, who nodded in from a corner kick delivered by Jesper Aheebwa.

Kyetume FC 1-0 UPDF FC – FUFA technical centre Njeru

A dull game which saw drama come at its climax.

In the 88th minutes, UPDF FC that had won their opening three games failed to convert a penalty and instead succumbed to a penalty scored by Kyetume’s Mustafa Mujuzi in the added minutes of the game.

Vipers SC 2-1 Kitara FC – St Mary’s stadium

The defending champions, Vipers SC had to come from behind to overcome Kitara FC 2-1 at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday evening.

Brian Mululi capitalized on Vipers poor defending to put the visitors ahead, but two substitutes, Paul Mucurezi and Dan Sserukuma netted a goal each in the last 10 minutes to earn Vipers their first win of the season from the two games they have played so far.

The Startimes Uganda Premier League will return with Matchday five fixtures starting on Friday and end on Sunday. After this week’s fixtures, the league will go into a break to enable the Cranes to prepare for the CHAN finals in Cameroon next year.
