StarTimes UPL: Onduparaka held at home, Mbarara makes a dream start

Arua-based Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka FC were held at home by UPDF FC while Mbarara City kicked ofg their 2021/22 season in style when the league opened on Friday evening with three matches.

This is a review of those matchday one fixtures.

Onduparaka had to come from a goal down to secure a 1-all stalemate with UPDF FC at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium in Arua in their opening day fixture of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The visitors, UPDF took the game’s lead in the 27th minute through Ivan Ahimbisibwe before Rashid Agau levelled matters for the Caterpillars just before the hour-mark.

Shaban who rejoined the club from Vipers SC failed to turn up to the occasion as the game was forced to end with the points shared.

In Mbarara, Mbarara City Football Club kicked off their campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Soltilo Bright Stars at the Kakyeka Stadium.

Henry Kitegenyi, Karim Ramathan and midfielder Solomon Okwalinga were on target for the Ankole Lions. While Nelson Senkatuka got Bright Stars consolation.

Kitengenyi opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Ramathan doubled the scores seven minutes before the breakbafter a wonderful cornerkick by Jasper Aheebwa.

Five minutes into the secind half, Senkatuka pulled a goal back for the Stars from the spotkick.

But Okwalinga restored Mbarara City’s two goals advantage later on in the game  and was awarded the Pilsner man of the match gong for his contribution to the game.

The win takes Mbarara City top of the log until at least on Sunday when the other matchday one games will be played.
