StarTimes UPL: Ojik, Aliro on target as Wakiso Giants claims first victory over URA

Wakiso Giants have secured their first Uganda Premier League victory over Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club.

This is after Norman Ojik and Moses Aliro scored the two important goals for the Purple Sharks as they held on to overcome the Tax Collectors 2-1 in Wakiso.

In a cagey opening half short of goalscoring chance, Wakiso Giants went into the break leading 1-0 courtesy of Ojik’s strike who calmly found the back of net with his first touch of the game immediately after replacing injured Frank Ssebufu.

The forward was brilliantly set through by Ibrahim Kasule who had made a good run to beat off his marker Patrick Mbowa.

After a lucksture opening half, the Tax Collectors returned for the closing half a better side – creating chance after chance looking for a leveller.

Vianne Ssekanjuko had his effort palmed away by Wakiso’s goalie Samson Kirya before George Ssenkaaba blazed over after being set through by Shafik Kagimu.

The Tax Collectors finally levelled matters just before the hour mark through James Begisa, whose cross found it’s way into the back of the net which caught Kirya unaware.

Moses Aliro restored Wakiso’s lead in the 65th minute after running onto Ojik’s strike to tap in from close range.

URA got a couple of half chances to put the scores level before the end of the game, but they failed to find the target.

Ssenkaaba blazed wide while Nyakonjo also headed wide from his effort.

With their first victory over the Tax Collectors, Wakiso Giants move up to third position on the log with 10 points in five games.

For URA, they remain seventh with six points in as many games.

In their next games, Wakiso Giants entertain SC Villa while URA hosts Arua Hill.
