Express FC lost further ground on StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers SC and URA after they played out a drab goalless deadlock with SC Villa at Bombo Military playground
The Red Eagles remain third but are now 3 points adrift the joint leaders while the result left SC Villa outside the top four two point behind KCCA FC
It was an evenly matched opening 45 minutes with either side drawing men behind the ball to deny their opponents space in behind, while also keeping alert to block any attempts.
Express FC saw more of the ball for the opening 10 minutes but it is SC Villa who had the first sniff at goal, Muhhamad Ssenonga’s shot was parried away for a cornerkick by Mathias Muwagga halfway in the first half.
The visitor’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Charles Musiige but his header off a Martin Kizza freekick was brilliantly saved by Saidi Keni just before the halftime break.
Like in the first half, goalscoring chances were far and between each other as both sides resorted to cautious approach limiting each other to a few chances.
The major talking point of the second half came in the 77th minute when substitute Ivan Mayanja was kicked in the ribs by Derrick Ndahiro for what looked like a red card offense but center referee Arthur Ssemerwerwe handed the SC Villa fullback just a yellow card.
Kambale took the resulting freekick but it was easily saved by Keni in the Jogoos goal.
With a draw today, Express FC will host Mbarara City next in the league while SC VILLA face a tricky away tie against KCCA on Sunday.
