Debutant Robert Esseru and Rashid Kawawa gave new entrants Arua Hill SC a winning start to their life in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, with a victory over defending champions Express FC at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wakulukuku.

Esseru and Kawawa netted the aal important goals as  Arua Hill registeres a shock 2-0 victory over the Express FC in the league opener on Friday.

Both goals came in the second half with former Red Eagles striker Alfred Leku involved in both.

It was a cagey affair which saw both sides create little in front of goal with Express sniffing the goal more in the opening 45 minutes.

Eric Kambale had the best attempt of the opening half but he saw his header acrobatically saved by Richard Anyama before George Ssenkaaba headed agnozingly wide from close range.

Arua Hill barely threatened in the opening half  as they spent most time doing ball possession.

The Kongolo’s first realist attempt at goal came four minutes after the break with Robert Esseru   beating off his marker to send an effort towards goal but Joel Mutakubwa  parried it away for a cornerkick.

Five minutes afterwards on the end, Express were unlucky not to be ahead of Kambale failed to connect well with a Enock Walusimbi’s delicious cross.

From Arua Hill’s second attempt at goal, the Kongolo took the game’s lead through Esseru. The former UPDF forward combined well with Alfred Leku to put the ball rolling into the back of net, beating off the on-rushing Mutakubwa.

Kawawa who came on for the goalscorer, Esseru got the second of the game in the 86th minute, with a tap-in after a wonderful run by Leku.
