Stanbic Uganda Cup: Express, Vipers rally from behind to win as Kazibwe stars for Villa once again

Express FC and Vipers rallied from behind to defeat their opponents and take first leg advantage in their Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 ties while Faizo Kazibwe netted the winner for SC Villa late on in any away game in Arua.

Here is a wrap of the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 first leg ties played on Saturday.

Starting off in Wakulukuku, Express came from a goal down to defeat URA FC 2-1 at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium.

The Tax Collectors broke the deadlock in the second minute through Dada Ibrahim when he pounced onto a Shafik Kagimu’s cross,  but Martin Kizza equalised for the Red Eagles 15 minutes later following a Godfrey Lwesibawa’s long throw-in.

Express, who were the better side in the second half got their second and what proved to be the winner in the 64th minute after starlet Eric Kambale slotted home a well driven Shadiq Ssekyembe’s corner kick.

The two sides will meet again on Tuesday, April 4, for the return leg at Arena of Visions in Ndejje.

In Bombo, Vipers SC, who were 1-0 down at the end of the first half netted thrice in the closing half to overcome UPDF FC 3-1 at the Bombo Military playgrounds.

Brian Kayanja netted the game’s opener for the Army side in the 11th minute but his goal was cancelled out early in the second half by Joseph Vuni who headed into his own net following a brilliant corner kick by Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Moments later, the Venoms were in the lead after an exquisite finish by Ibrahim Orit and before the death of the game, two substitutes, Abraham Ndugwa and Cesar Manzoni combined well for the third scored the later through a diving header.

The two sides will meet again on Monday , 3rd April for the return leg at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

In Arua, Faizo Kazibwe was the hero for SC  Villa as he netted the winner and the game’s lone goal with two minutes left on the clock as the Jogoos defeated Onduparaka at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium.

Round of 16 action will continue on Sunday, 2nd May 2021 with first leg duels at 3 different venues. Two games will be live on UBC TV
