In the first of the kind match, The StarTimes Uganda Premier League All-stars game at the MTN Omondi Stadium, it was Sam Simbwa that got the better of Mike Mutebi as Team Dubymax Hasule defeated Team Kirunda 2-0 in a tightly contested game.
Sam Ssekamate netted an own goal in the first half while Joseph Ssemujju added the other late in the second half to secure victory for Simbwa.
The match started in a relatively slow fashion, with both teams taking a more cautious approach and in the end, they resorted to a pound for pound approach limiting each other to as few chances as realised.
Team Hasule was the better side though throughout the first half as they were so dangerous on the counter-attacks while Team Kirunda were struggling to find rhythm depicted by the lack of serious threats at the Hasule’s goal.
Until the 35th minute, it was far from an entertaining half as Enock Walusimbi found himself in the referee book with caution for being reckless against Martin Kizza.
In the later minutes of the first half, the deadlock was finally broken after Sam Ssekamate headed into his own goal after a brilliant Saidi Kyeyune’s cornerkick.
The game went into the break with Hasule holding a narrow 1-0 lead over team Kirunda.
After an owful first half, Coach Mike Mutebi got Salim Abdallah on for Ssekamate while Sadat Anaku got on for Derrick Ndahiro in the bid to help his side be more productive upfront.
Mutebi’s side was the better side of the closing half but failed to create enough chance upfront to get a leveller.
It was Team Hasule that got the second of the game through substitute Joseph Ssemujju who stole the ball from Aziz Kayondo from defensive half, drove it all the way to put it past Ali Mwerusi.
Team Kirunda tried to pull a goal back before the end of the game, but the Team Hasule’s backline remained rock solid.
