The Touchline Sports takes a look at how Ghana’s last meeting with Uganda in the qualifiers for the 3rd edition went down in 2015.
West Africa has always been bogey for East African teams in the footballing world and it wasn’t any different when the Sand Cranes took on the Black Sharks of Ghana in beach soccer.
The last time the two sides faced off happened at the qualifying phase in 2015 and the first leg was played on the 15th of March. On a Sunday evening, Ghana’s Black Sharks beat the Sand Cranes 9-6 in the first leg of the CAF Beach Soccer qualifier played at Sports Beach arena in Entebbe.
The Sharks, who arrived in the country two hours to the game scored through Mathew Lamptey’s 4 goals, captain Michael Sema’s hat-trick and a goal apiece from Alexander Adye and Isaac Ofori. Baker Lukooya (2), Brian Nkuubi, team captain Derrick Tekwo and a Roch Somoka scored for Uganda on that Sunday evening.
The second round was played on the 22nd of March 2015 and Ghana’s Black Sharks this time beat Uganda’s Sand Cranes 14-2 at the beach soccer park Labadi.
That day, the Sand Cranes who arrived in Ghana a day before the game showed did not do put up any magical displays like the Sharks had done in the first leg in Kampala. They were dominated by the hosts.
Uganda needed a victory of a margin of more than 4 goals to be assured of a slot at next month’s CAF beach soccer championships that would be held in Seychelles.
