Talented youngster Pius Akena is one step closer to achieving his dream of playing for one of Asia’s top clubs Al Nasr FC in Dubai.

The 18-year-old flew to Dubai in October where he spent 2 months on trial to prove he got what it takes to win a coveted contract with the Kurunoslav Jurcic coached side.

While on trial at the UAE-Pro League side, Akena was involved in 3 club friendly games from which he impressed and is just waiting to sign papers. But all that has been put o hold due to the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.

He says he passed the test but the signing is not yet done due to the coronavirus crisis which has caged football for the past few months.

I passed the trials but unfortunately, Covid-19 stepped in before I signed.

While speaking to Touchline Sports’ Ronald Yiga, Akena explained how his dream that still hangs in balance could fade away at any moment if the situation doesn’t improve sooner than expected.

“Am afraid because right now every country has been locked down. If this situation overstays the deal might fade away”

Said a demoralized Akena.

Al Nasr is currently 6th on the table of 14 teams with 31 points amassed in 19-games.

The youngster started his career with Proway Sports Academy in 2008 before he could join Aspire Academy Qatar in 2015.

Akena later joined Maroons FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League in 2017 where he spent 2 years before he went to Dubai.
