Kumi University defeat Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in the University Football League match played at Kayembe Arena as they boosted their chances of reaching the quarterfinals .
The hosts took a shock early lead just one minute into the match when a dangerous cutback from Faizal Mumali forced Osama Ramathan to turn the ball into his own net.
Kumi University responded strongly and dominated large spells of the first half but could not find the equalizer before the break.
The visitors returned from halftime with renewed energy. Nyongesa Christopher leveled the score two minutes into the second half after being released by a long ball from Semu Odeke. Five minutes later, Walwasa Nathan put Kumi ahead from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.
IUIU quickly responded when Rodgers Kiggundu powered home a header from Emmanuel Shinkanga’s free kick in the 58th minute to make it 2–2.
However, Kumi University had the final say. Walwasa Nathan struck again in the 75th minute to restore the lead before Olupot Simon sealed the victory with a powerful strike in the 87th minute.
The 4–2 win marks Kumi University’s biggest away result in the competition and extends their unbeaten run to four matches, strengthening their push for a historic quarterfinal spot.
