Uganda 192/7 in 18 overs
Rwanda 83 all out in 16.1 overs
Uganda won by 112 runs DLS
On matchday two of the ongoing ILT20 Continental Cup in Kigali, Robinson Obuya, commonly known as Robo, delivered a stellar performance as Uganda dominated Rwanda with a commanding victory.
Obuya was the star of the afternoon, smashing a stylish half-century and earning the Player of the Match award.
His brilliant knock of 83 off just 44 balls not only propelled Uganda to a resounding win but also set a new personal record for the highest individual score in T20 Internationals, surpassing his previous best of 57.
The match began on a seemingly bowling-friendly wicket under overcast conditions.
Rwanda won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Uganda quickly found their rhythm despite losing an early wicket in the third over.
By the halfway mark, Uganda had recovered to 99/2 after 10 overs.
With a rain interruption in the 13th over and the game shortened 18 overs per side, Uganda remained unfazed.
Despite two runouts, they posted an imposing total of 192/7, thanks in large part to Obuya’s scintillating innings.
In response, Rwanda’s chase started solidly at 37/0 but quickly unraveled when Dinesh Nakrani entered the attack.
Nakrani’s devastating spell saw him claim three wickets in his first over, and he finished with remarkable figures of 4/16 in four overs.
Frank Nsubuga and Henry Ssenyondo joined the party, with Ssenyondo achieving a milestone of 100 T20I wickets as he picked up 3/13 in three overs whereas Nsubuga got 2 wickets for Uganda.
Rwanda’s middle and lower order collapsed dramatically, losing six wickets for just three runs.
They were eventually bowled out for a mere 83 runs in 16.1 overs, handing Uganda a massive 112-run victory via the DLS method.
Uganda now looks ahead to their next game against Nigeria, who are riding high after winning the Sub-Regional C Qualifier and securing two wins in this tournament.
We acknowledge that Nigeria is in good form, but we are also a good side, all we hope is to maintain the momentum as we aim to continue with our dominant display in the ILT20 Continental Cup
