NSSF KAVC International tournament returns after 2 years of absence


The prestigious NSSF KAVC Volleyball International championship has returned after two years of absence due to COVID-19 pandemic.

This development was confirmed by KAVC president Hamuza Lubwama on Wednesday morning at press briefing held at Copper Chimney Restaurant, Lugogo.

NSSF KAVC Volleyball International tournament was last held in 2019 as the COVID-19 pandemic couldn’t allow the annual tournament to take place in 2020 and 2021.

National Social Security Fund ( NSSF) has been the lead sponsor for this tournament for the last 14 years and this year, they will inject Shs.70m into the three day’s international tournament.

The sponsorship will used to cater for the technical aspects of the game and publicity.

NSSF will be joined by Pallisa Agro-Processors, Pepsi and Uganda Volleyball Federation this year.

“We are back after two years and this is thus a very exciting occasion as we get to rejuvenate the spirits of the many participants and lovers of the sport who have spent much time with little to no sports tournaments,” Victor Karamagi, the NSSF Public Relations Manager told journalist at Lugogo.

This 2022 edition will be the 24th edition of this annual tournament and will be played between 5th and 7th August 2022 at two venues:- Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Lugogo Hockey Grounds.

More than 30 teams from East and Central Africa are expected to participate in this tournament.

KAVC, KCCA, Uganda Prison VC, OBB, Uganda Police, Western Police, Western Team, Northern Team and Elyon VC are the local men’s teams that have so far confirmed participation while Rukinzo VC, Gacosmos VC, University of Rwanda, APR, Gisagara VC, Juba VC, Lions Sports Club, Kagera VC and Bukoba VC are the foreign men’s teams.

The women’s teams that have so far confirmed participation include:- KAVC, Ndejje University, Nkumba University, KCCA, Espoir, OBB, Cobap, VCC, APR and Cobra VC.

Homegrown VC ( Kenya) and Nkumba University VC ( Uganda) are the defending champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

KAVC are the record winners of this tournament with 7 men’s and 8 women’s championships.
