Uganda only sent two representatives to China for the World Athletics Indoor Championships that took place in Nanjing over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday(22nd – 23rd march, 2025.)

2019 World Athletics Championships 800m Gold Medalist Halimah Nakayi seems to have lost her stride across the distance she once dominated. During the national trials, days before she left for China, Nakayi spoke about how first the track is lately but she would still give it her best.

Some of the reasons she cited for this was age, and this was evidenced by the 23 year old SouthAfrican gold medalist Prudence Sekgodiso, posing a 7 year gap between her and 30 yr old Nakayi who did not make it past the heats.

Despite running her best time this season (2:04:57), Nakayi finished 5th heats on Saturday and failed to qualify for the semis.

Tom Dradriga who was racing in the men’s 800m gave some hope to Ugandans when he led his heat enroute to the semis where he was only second best to eventual Gold medalist, USA’s Josh Hoey. But in Sunday’s final, Dradriga finished 6th.
