Mbarara City: The top four strikers who could replace contract rebel Brian Aheebwa

0

It seems like the Mbarara City have now accepted the reality, and are already planning their future without their all-time leading goal scorer, Brian Aheebwa.

Brian Aheebwa is currently a free agent following the expiry of his contract with the Ankole Lions. It is believed he is currently playing hardball with his bosses.

The Mbarara based side are feeling the heat as their main goalscorer is delaying the contract negotiations with a move to 13-league champions KCCA imminent.

The striker displayed an incredible performance last season scoring 14 goals in all competitions for the Ankole Lions. He is also the club’s all-time leading goal scorer with 33 goals.

Aheebwa is an extremely gifted player with unique abilities which puts him on the list of the best forwards in the country, and it’s quite obvious that he ‘deserves a better place’, where he can win trophies and find like-minded players who can encourage him to improve on his talent, time-in time-out.

Brian Ssenyondo and the club officials are keen on handing out new contracts to their star players and as of now, Jude Ssemugabi has already extended his stay with the Ankole Lions for another three years.

Aheebwa has been under the watch of ‘top-table’ clubs including KCCA FC and Vipers SC and this has already triggered the panic button at the Ankole Lions, and now the hierarchy at the Kakyeeka based club has accepted the fact that he might leave the club during this transfer window.

It is believed that Mbarara City has already started the search for a replacement before the start of the 2020/21 StarTimes UPL season.

But who are the strikers that could replace Aheebwa at Mbarara City? The Touchline Sports’ Ronald Yiga takes a look at the four best-notch alternatives.

Julius Malingumu

The Onduparaka superstar has already proved his mettle at the Caterpillars previously under former boss Livingstone Mbabazi and under Simeon Masaba. His clinical finishing abilities up front have now attracted the attention of several top teams.

Malingumu brings immaculate pace into the game and operates as a spear for Onduparaka where he has scored nine goals for the Arua based side.

He also scored one of the few hattricks registered in the StarTimes UPL 2019/20 season against Kyetume in Arua.

His brevity and willingness to run would be a good fit for Mbarara City’s supporting cast of Ibrahim Orit and co.

The Vipers SC forward who has been on loan at Bright Stars FC may cross to Mbarara City as the club bosses look to replace Aheebwa, whose move away from the Ankole Lions looks more possible this transfer window.

The 24-year-old poacher put up an incredible performance for Bright Stars last season, scoring six goals and five assists. Having worked with Brian Ssenyondo at Masaka SS, the move to Ankole Lions may be possible if they can lure him away from the Mwererwe based side.

A Prolific striker, Yafesi Mubiru may seek for top-flight football after his team Tooro United got relegated to the StarTimes FUFA Big League. Mubiru, who is a great finisher and like Aheebwa likes to win possession by pressing high up the pitch,

He has a hold on his brilliant form last season for Tooro United in the StarTime Uganda Premier League where he scored 6 league goals in 21 appearances.

Hamis Kizza

The 30-year old Proline striker showed sparks of brilliance in the concluded season netting six goals and a handful of assists. Age is just a number for the former URA FC and Vipers forward with his eye for a goal and his mobility inside the penalty area still unbeatable.

He is currently a free agent following the expiry of his six-month contract with Proline FC and has been rumored to be on the radar of the Ankole Lions.
