The second edition of the Legendz Marathon is back, louder, bigger and more meaningful. With the powerful theme “RUN FOR YOUR LEGEND”, the 2025 edition invites participants to hit the ground running not just for themselves, but in honor of those who’ve shaped their journey.

Be it a childhood hero, a parent, mentor or even their future selves, every participant will wear their inspiration proudly, quite literally with a dedicated space on each race bib to write the name of their personal legend.
Launched in a vibrant ceremony at the Legends Rugby Grounds in Lugogo, Kampala, last month the event is shaping up to be more than just another race day.

According to Event Director Andrew Mwanguhya, the upcoming marathon, set for Sunday, April 13, 2025, he promised this to be a platform of transformation both for participants and the broader sporting community.
“This is more than a race. It’s a movement,” Mwanguhya declared at the launch.
“Our vision is to build a legacy where every athlete, whether retired, active or aspiring finds opportunities beyond their sporting career.”
That vision comes to life through Athlete Career+, a groundbreaking initiative launched alongside the marathon.
The year round programme is designed to equip athletes with life changing skills in areas like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, sports coaching, mental health, media and even modern farming.
Proceeds from the marathon will directly support this initiative, while donors and partners can contribute throughout the year.
Inclusivity sits at the heart of the 2025 edition. With distances ranging from the full 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km and a 5km fun run, the event welcomes elite competitors, fitness enthusiasts and casual walkers alike.
But whether they’re sprinting to the finish line or strolling in memory of a loved one, every participant will become part of something far larger, a community running with purpose, passion, and pride.
Organizers have promised a rich and rewarding experience for everyone involved. From race day entertainment to thoughtful logistics, every detail is geared toward ensuring that runners and walkers enjoy the event to the fullest.
The launch event itself reflected the marathon’s growing momentum. A diverse mix of elite and recreational runners, retired and active athletes, running club captains, corporate supporters and media personalities turned up to show their support.
It was a strong indication of the marathon’s rising influence in shaping Uganda’s sports tourism and athlete empowerment landscape.
