City Oilers beat UCU Canons 79-69 in an intense game III of the best of seven series NBL Finals at Lugogo Indoor Stadium to finally take the Finals’ lead on Sunday evening.
After leveling the series in game 2 on Friday, Mandy Juruni’s side made no mistake in game III to keep their 7th title dreams alive. This was evident as the Cannons trailed by 10 points at the end of the first half.
Landry scored a game-high 29 points added up with 7 rebounds in 36 minutes on the field of play for the Oilers.
Suprise Starter Jimmy Enabu affirmed Mandy Juruni’s decision on his selection as he contributed 13 out of the 79 points and Ben Komakech added more 12 points as the ‘defenders’ cruised past the Canons from Uganda Christian University to take Final series lead.
UCU who trailed by 10 points at half time, endured yet again a horrible shooting practice as they shot only 38% on the field of play.
Chuma Fadhili recorded another Final’s double-double( 14 points and 11 rebounds), Titus Lual had only 8 while David Kongor was the worst player on the field of with only 2 points for the losing side.
The FUBA NBL Finals will now go into a break till early next year to enable City Oilers to prepare for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers scheduled for 17th to 22nd December in Kigali, Rwanda.
In the ladies’ Finals, Flavia Oketcho inspired defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins past UCU Lady Canons 60-55 in the first game of the night at Lugogo.
The Dolphins now lead the series 2-1 and game four will happen on Tuesday at the Indoor Arena, Lugogo
