Uganda Silverbacks captain Jimmy Enabu says the team is in the right mindset to do what they are supposed to do at the 2021 AfroBasket finals in Rwanda despite difficult preparation.
The Silverbacks had to go for a training camp in Egypt ahead of the tournament but that wasn’t possible because they lacked funds to facilitate the arrangement.
The team departed Uganda on Wednesday morning after acquiring funds from a money lender and is currently in Kigali, undergoing a three-day mandatory quarantine as per the COVID-19 regulations.
Speaking to FUBA media, Enabu said he is happy that the team is currently in Rwanda despite all the challenges faced.
He says they are excited and happy.
“We are excited and happy to be here,” Enabu said before adding;
“Obviously leading our trip here, Our preparations haven’t been so easy but our mindset is that we have to focus on the task at hand.”
Despite overcoming a number of challenges to be at the AfroBasket that included a rearranged qualification game against Morocco due to COVID-19, Enabu says the team is still in the right mindset.
“We are generally in the right mindset and on track to do what we need to do.”
“We embrace the challenge because it’s not only us going through this (COVID) so somehow we have to find a way to manage and take care of our bodies so the pandemic is no excuse on how we are supposed to perform here.”
The Silverbacks are in group D alongside West Africans Senegal and Cameroon and neighbours.
Their first game is against Senegal on August 25th at 6 pm.
