Saturday 9th November
- Uganda 289/7
- Tanzania 80 all out
- Uganda won by 209 runs
Cricket Cranes Captain Riazat Ali Shah rose to the occasion in stellar style with a maiden career century in List A cricket against Tanzania at the Challenge League B Tournament game played at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Saturday 9th November
Uganda won the game with a commanding 209-run margin thanks to a great 139 run patnership of skipper Riazat (104) and Alpesh Ramjani (74) in the first innings.
The East African neighbours (Tanzania) won the toss and elected to bowl first.
As expected Uganda started slow because of the slow bowling of Raghav Dhawan and Shrideep Mangela
However they didn’t stay around for long, as batters Robinson Obuya (39) and Kenneth Waiswa (20) kept the scoreboard ticking.
But it was Riazat Ali Shah’s day and time to shine in his first tough assignment that found a steady Ramjani on the other end who managed to stick around and keep all the boxes ticking with fours and sixes to compliment his captain only to notch up a half-century of his own.
In the second innings, Juma Miyagi (2/16) and Cosmas Kyewuta (5/26) reduced Tanzania to 38/6, and the Tanzanians were unable to recover from that poor start.
Later on Henry Ssenyondo (2/15) and Alpesh Ramjani (1/20) picked up the other wickets to round off an excellent performance for the host nation.
This was Uganda’s second consecutive win of the tournament just as it was Tanzania ‘s second loss making it two in two on either side.
Uganda’s next game will be played on Sunday 10th November against Hong Kong at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
