Ivan Muhwezi has fired back at City Oilers team manager Grace Kwizera for peddling lies about him, expressing disappointment over having his name dragged into the allegations.
Ten-time record champions City Oilers have had their camp covered in mayhem ever since the start of the season, with just two wins in their six outings.
Injuries were part of the blame for their worst-ever start to an NBL season, tipping off without three key players: Ivan Muhwezi, Titus Lual, and Fayed Bbaale. The trio was sidelined by injuries.
But there has since been a twist to the plot, team manager Grace Kwizera appeared in an interview with NBS Sport talking about the three players Jimmy Enabu, Tonny Drileba, and James Okello who left Oilers and are currently playing for archrivals NamBlazers.
Controversially, he also talked about Muhwezi, saying he hasn’t shown up for training.
Muhwezi came for his salary advance and received all the money he required for the season, but he hasn’t shown up. We don’t know where he is.”
Muhwezi, while appearing on the same station today, responded to these accusations, saying he is disappointed in Kwizera for dragging his name into lies, stating that he spoke directly to Hajji Santur regarding the matter before the decision was made.
All I asked for was a new deal with a salary increment. I spoke directly to Hajj Santur, and it was clear that if it wasn’t achieved, I might have to leave. Now, this is how I’m being sidelined for the first leg.”
It’s highly speculated that Muhwezi will join his former teammates in Namblazers, who posted a picture of him in action today captioned “One step at a time.”
He was also quoted saying
I’ll be back playing in the NBL in about a month in the second round with a team I’m currently training with.”
