Silverbacks coach George Galanopolous says the new faces on the Ugandan Basketball team are very talented and will fit well in the team ahead of the AfroBasket qualifier game in Morocco.
The team is currently in a training camp in Cairo, Egypt ahead of the crucial game next week.
Galanopolous says the new guys we have on the team are so talented and very good people;
“Am very excited to work with everyone on the team, the new guys we have on the team are so talented and very good people who are going to fit in well with us,” Galanopolous told FUBA Media.
Keiran Zziwa, a guard from the University of Manitoba Bisons and Muhammed Ghedi Abdihakim (USA) are the two new players on the team.
On the team’s chances of making it to the finals in Kigali later this year, Galanopolous says the team isn’t thinking of that, rather, they are preparing as best as they can to beat Morocco.
“Honestly we are not thinking of what our chances are. We are just taking it day by day, practice by practice and preparing as best as we can to win the game” the Silverbacks coach said before adding;
“It doesn’t matter how much time we have or whether or not its adequate enough, the time we have is what we have and we will do as much as we can in that time to prepare for the game.”
The Silverbacks need only one win to qualify for their third consecutive AfroBasket tourney and will need to beat Morocco on July 8th to seal the berth.
The Afrobasket will be held in Kigali, Rwanda from 4 August to September 5, 2021.
