The Uganda U-20 Women’s Football team had to finish their FIFA World Cup qualifier first leg game against Ghana with nine players.

This is after Captain Fauzia Najjemba and Aisha Nantongo were both stretched off injured before the end in a 2-1 loss.

Najjemba had earlier pulled a goal back for Uganda after Sulamatu Abdulai and Grace Animah had put Ghana twice ahead in the game.

Salamatu capitalised on a defensive mistake to chip the ball past Daphine Nyayenga and into the back of the net to give the visitors the lead in the 18th minute.

While Animah extended Ghana’s lead with a sublime freekick early in the second half.

Before Animah’s goal though, Ghana had chance after chance to double their lead but missed the target on several attempts.

Suzzy Dede hit the goal post before Dorris Boaduwa missed a brilliant close tap in.

Fauzia had Uganda’s first chance but she failed to beat Goalkeeper Konlan Findib in the 9th minute.

Substitute Shamirah Nalugya had Uganda’s second attempt but Konlan parried away her freekick attempt in second half.

Fauzia got Uganda’s consolation of the day from the spot after Nalugya was stripped in the forbidden area.

2-1, Uganda lost the first leg and the return leg will be played in Acraa, Ghana next week.

The aggregate winner of the two legs will face the winner between Tanzania and Ehiopia.
