Deo Kasozi has stepped down as president of Kitara Football Club, bringing an end to what many have described as the club’s most remarkable era in Ugandan football. Since becoming the club’s president in 2022, replacing Godfrey Bamwenda, who had served as the club president for 4 years, Kasozi’s visionary stewardship transformed the club from a struggling lower-division side into one of the nation’s most competitive football outfits.

When Kasozi took the reins, Kitara FC was mired in financial instability and battling in the FUFA Big League. Under his guidance, the club not only secured promotion to the Uganda Premier League but quickly established itself among the elite, culminating in a historic Uganda Cup triumph in 2024 and a runner-up finish in the 2023/24 league season.

A key hallmark of Kasozi’s leadership was financial stabilization and growth. He spearheaded major sponsorships, including a UGX 30 million deal with Kinyara Sugar Limited in December 2023, which became a turning point in securing player welfare and operational stability. His approach involved building local partnerships, introducing sustainable revenue streams, and prioritizing financial discipline all of which professionalized Kitara’s structure.

Kasozi also oversaw significant improvements in infrastructure and player development. Under his administration, the club ensured regular player remuneration, enhanced training facilities, and invested in youth programs. His ability to attract top-tier talent was evident in the recruitment of stars such as Patrick Kaddu, Paul Mucureezi, and Isaac Isinde, whose presence elevated Kitara’s status in the league.

Despite Kitara’s dream run, their debut appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup ended prematurely, exiting in the preliminary round. However, the continental exposure underscored how far the club had come under Kasozi’s leadership.

His decision to step down was driven by a belief in institutional renewal and the need to let others build on the foundation he laid. In his emotional farewell, Kasozi said:

“It’s been a fulfilling journey. I thank everyone who stood by me, from the fans to the players and our partners. We’ve redefined Kitara’s place in Ugandan football.”

As the club charts a new path forward, Kasozi’s legacy, marked by financial revival, competitive resurgence, and continental dreams, will continue to inspire. His era redefined Kitara FC not just as a regional club from Hoima but as a national football force.
