Crested Cranes thrashed Djibouti to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2022 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship of what was the first game on Friday at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Uganda put five(5) past Djibouti to go top of Group A with six points and seven(7)goals from two games after defeating Rwanda 2-0.
In today’s game the team’s Head coach Lutalo, made two changes from the team that started in the first game against Rwanda with Sandra Nabweteme and Lillian Mutuuzo coming in for Shirazi and Sumaya Komuntale.
The Crested Cranes dominated all the proceedings of the opening half with Kawempe Muslim’s Aisha Nantongo getting rewarded with a goal through a header in the 15th minute and another courtesy of a Margaret Namirimu shot in the 43rd minute to open their accounts.
Four minutes into the second stanza, the Ugandan girls who were more composed than the first adding the third goal to stretch the lead through Nabwetweme who tapped the ball home from close range.
From the their onwards the Djibouti women continued to be defensive hence attracting more pressure leading to the fourth of the game by the MVP of the FUFA Women’s Super League Phionah Nabbumba who needed only seven minutes. Ikwaput later came to the party to seal it off making it five(5) for the day.
Crested Cranes game will complete their Group A action on Sunday against Burundi as Rwanda will take on Djibouti.
