Weather was on its best behavior as the different disciplines started off at the 6th outing of the Corporate Sports Network on Sunday.
This outing was headlined by a double climax of both Athletics and Netball like it has been with the previous ones where Basketball and Woodball were cruised out of the mix.
With the roaming excitement seen all around the ground, 100-meter and 200-meter sprints were the most anticipated and highest-viewed events as it is in the world of athletics.
Thirty five (35) corporate companies lined up their athletes for coveted gold. With the 2024 Paris Olympics just ending, you would forgive some athletes for borrowing some tactics from fancied names; the showy American sprint star Noah Lyles or chest-thumping Ugandan 200m sprint holder Tarsis Orogot before the race.
However, after the races that raged the whole day, with a series of qualifiers, it was dfcu Bank, Centenary Bank and Case Hospital who were the biggest winners.
Case Hospital’s Francis Drani won gold in the 100 meters, with his counterpart Irene Rukundo bagging bronze in the 100 meters for women.
Centenary Bank’s Henry Kayongo (silver) 100m and Mary Unyuthfua (gold) 200m were the toast of the bankers, while Dfcu’s Brian Nuwamanya 200m (gold) and Veronica Nansubuga (silver) 100m women were in blistering form.
Eunice Apolot (Uganda Prisons) 100-meter women (gold) swept the field, winning by a sizeable margin.
