The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has modified the CAF tournaments’ Coronavirus rules and regulations.

The development was confirmed in a letter dated on 15th January 2021 after an executive meeting in Yaounde decided to modify the rules and regulations in regards to the minimum number of players required to start a game in case of players returning positive tests before a CAF game.

“To allow a team that have 11 available players to play the match. In case there is no goalkeeper, another player can replace the goalkeeper on condition that the total number of players on the pitch is 11. If a team doesn’t have the minimum number of 11 players to play a match, the team will be considered to have lost the match 2-0,” part of the statement reads.

The old rule stated that a minimum of  15 players should be available to start a game and if a team doesn’t have the minimum number of 15 players to play a match, the match would be called off and 2 points and 3 points awarded to the opponent team.

It should be noted that KCCA lost the first leg of the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup match to AS Kigali by forfeiture for failing to raise the minimum number to play a game(15), an outcome that cost their qualification to the next stage of the Cup despite winning the second leg at Kitende.
