The Uganda Men’s National Basketball team, Silverbacks suffered a horrible start to their 2021 AfroBasket campaign with a 93-55 loss to Senegal on Wednesday evening in Kigali, Rwanda.
The team struggled both defensively and offensively as they could not deal with Senegal’s physicality and technic.
The five-time champions won all quarters of the game beginning with the first quarter 21-14.
The second quarter was tightly contested but still the West African narrowly won it 19-17 to go into the break with a nine points lead (31-40)
The third was distractous for the Silverbacks as they were outclassed 28-09 to trail behind 28 points going into the last quarter of the game.
In the last quarter,Senegal were also impressive, taking it 25-15 to secure a 93-55 victory.
Debutant Adam Seiko top scored for Uganda with 12 points, Kieran Zziwa added 9 while Ishmail Wainwright managed just 8 points on losing effort.
Senegal had four players in double figures lead by Goegui Dieng (19), Ibrahim Faye (15) and Branco Badiou(17).
The loss means Uganda have to win the final two group games ( South Sudan and Cameroon) so as to teach the last 16.
South Sudan got a bye (20-0) as their game against Cameroon wasn’t played due to COVID-19 case in the Cameroon camp.
Uganda take on Cameroon on Friday before South Sudan on Sunday.
