The Final Draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025, has been conducted, and Uganda has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco and neighbors Tanzania.
The draw, which was held on Thursday, February 13, in Cairo, saw the 16 participating teams divided into four groups of four teams each.
Morocco, as the host country, was automatically assigned to position A1 in Group A.
Uganda, who will be making their appearance in the tournament, will face a tough challenge in Group A, which also includes Tanzania and Zambia.
The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals and the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.
The competition is set to take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025, in Morocco, with a record 10 African nations qualifying for the 48-team 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 5-27, 2025.
Uganda secured their spot in the tournament by progressing to the final of the CECAFA Qualifiers after defeating Somalia in the semi-finals last year in Uganda.
They then went on to win the qualifier after coming from behind to beat Tanzania 2-1 in the final.
Notably, this will be Uganda’s first appearance at the U17 continental stage. Although they qualified for the tournament in 2021, it was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Therefore, the team is eager to make a strong debut and leave a lasting impression on the tournament.
