Ahead of the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup this Saturday at Philip Omondi Stadium, We held the draw at their Standard Chartered Headquarters on Tuesday morning to select who’s playing who.
Forty one (41) teams were confirmed and will be participating in the 7th edition of the one- day Cup tournament.
Games will be played for 10 minutes on a five-a-side basis with two substitutes (mini futsal) tournament starting at 07:00am until 6:00pm with Kick off time is scheduled for exactly 8:05am and expected to end at 4:30pm from which the winner will be announced.
During the draws members of the press and representatives from the participating teams took part and these included MTN Uganda, Nation Media Group, Jubilee Allianz, Sanlam Uganda, and Roofings Rollings Mill.
The 41 teams were grouped by the organisers in 8 groups, each group being made up of 5 to 6 teams for the group stages (they are attached).
Group games will be played on a round robin basis and the top two in each group, will advance to the round of 16 before getting Quarter finals on knockout format then winners will match onto the Semi Finals and later the Finals.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners up will receive trophies and medals.
In addition to that, the best player, most disciplined team, best goalkeeper and highest scorer will also be awarded.
Joel Cornerious Kivumbi, the Edgars Youth Programme Public Relations Manager and Technical Committee Chairperson while addressing the participants said;

“This year we have once again assembled a diligent, competent and dedicated technical team that will oversee the running of the tournament and ensure that set standards are perfectly met.”
“The likes of Lwanga Ronald, Arthur Kyesimira, Kazora Emmanuel and Edwok Julius along with other dedicated team members of Edgars Youth Programme will ensure the successful progression of the tournament.”
Speaking at the draw, John Mwesigye, the Chief Operations Officer at Standard Chartered Bank who’s also the chairperson of the organising committee of this year’s Standard Chartered Cup re-echoed the need to follow all the rules and regulations to avoid disqualification.
He also implored the participating teams to keep time so that the competition could kick off early enough.
During the SC Cup tournament, the field layout will have 4 mini pitches of 40 x 30 metres and these shall be named after the current Liverpool Players: Pitch 1. Mohammed Salah, Pitch 2. Alisson Baker, Pitch 3. Virgil van Dijk, Pitch 4. Trent Alexander Arnold.
The winning team will get an all-expense paid trip to the UK which will include a visit to the Liverpool Academy and meet up with a Liverpool FC legend, watch a live English Premier League Liverpool game at Anfield, a tour of Melwood, the Beatles story and as well as visit to the Liverpool Museum with 3 nights’ accommodation, meals among other perks and treats.
