The Uganda National Football Team, The Cranes ended their World Cup qualification campaign on a low note.
This is after they lost 1-0 to Mali in a dead rubber game played at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, Morocco.
Khalifa Coulibaly netted the all important goal for Mali who had already secured their spot in the next qualification round before the game.
Mali were so dominant in the opening half and got the lead in the 17th minute, Coulibaly capitalizing on poor goalkeeping by Ismail Watenga to loop the ball into an empty net. Watenga raced off his line but fell to meet a nicely taken freekick.
Uganda would have equalised few minutes afterwards but Ibrahim Orit’s venomous shot was parried away for a corner by Mali custodian Ismael Diawara.
In the second half, Watenga made two brilliant saves to keep Uganda in the game as he acrobatically saved Coulibaly and Mounkoro Adama’s headers.
Uganda had two brilliant changes to level matters in the closing half but Allan Okello and Orit both missed from point-blank range after nice cross by Martin Kizza and Isaac Muleme respectively.
Okello also his goal flagged off for offside after the Mali goalie spilled a Bobosi Byaruhanga freekick into his path to slot home.
With the loss, Uganda has suffered its first loss in the qualification campaign, having drawn three and won two of their other five games.
