Uganda takes on Guinea in the third round and sixth group game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with their target set on attaining maximum points at home as they are eager to revive their chances of fighting for a qualifying spot in group G.

Uganda come into this game from a 3-1 loss against second placed Mozambique and will be eager to bounce back. However they face a huge task as they face Guinea a side who they lost to by a 2-1 score in their opening first round game of the Qualifiers.

Uganda Cranes Head coach Paul Put targets maximum points but calls on fans support with belief in his team despite facing some of the top players from European Clubs.

Paul Put during the Press Conference.

“Guinea has quality players competing at a high level in Europe, but we also have a strong team capable of competing in our own way. I believe in my players and the support behind us.” said Put.

“Tomorrow is important, we still have so many games. Everything is open, and anything can still happen. In football, everything is possible, we just have to stay behind the team.” He added.

For the errors and mistakes in the loss to Mozambique, Coach Paul Put attributes the game of football to a team sport for the struggles of goalkeeper Ismail Watenga who had a bad in office going on to conceed three goals from mistakes.

“Even the best goalkeepers make mistakes, it’s part of the game and a mental challenge. Football is a team sport; we win together, we learn together, and we grow stronger together.”

The captain Khalid Aucho has belief in young players as the future of the team but has called for support amidst the criticism and pressure put on them.

“Our young players are the future; they took us to AFCON, and we must continue to uplift and motivate them, even in tough times. I call upon the nation and the media to support them. Let’s turn up in numbers tomorrow at Namboole and back the Cranes. We shall not disappoint!” said the captain Khalid Aucho.

Guinea are also desperate for maximum points after playing out to a goalless draw against Somalia which has seen them sit in third place with 7 points and a win can see them back in contention for a qualifying slot.
