- Uganda 0-2 Kenya
It wasn’t the perfect women’s day gift for Uganda’s U17 ladies side who lost 0-2 to neighbors Kenya in the first leg of the U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo in Kampala today.
Two first half goals from Edinah Nasipwondi and Joan Ogola ensured Kenya’s crucial away win. Teen Cranes coach Sheryl Botes spoke with confidence, hoping to overturn the results in Nairobi.
“We knew we were against a team that has eight players who have been at the world cup, I’m very proud of the girls, We fought from the beginning. All isn’t over yet, we have another leg, we will make a few changes and the idea is for us to score two goals and win the second leg.”
Uganda came into the game hopeful after clearing Nimibia 18-1 on average in the opening round of the qualifiers in January.
The return leg will take place in Nairobi on Sunday, 16th March. And the winner of this tie faces Ethiopia or Cameroon in the next round.
