Matovu Ukasha aka Ukasha Lee is one of the most popular names when you move around the different Boxing circles, with an argument of who brings the biggest numbers into a Uganda Boxing Champions League fight night -90% of fingers would point at him.

Matovu Ukasha.

However over the years boxers have been described with a lot and among those is the swag/style -some of which is ideally brought from the professionals like Floyd Mayweather Jr, Anthony Joshua plus many others and Ukasha would tick that box too.

But the boxing bit is what rounds off everything and at the moment it’s easy to put out a debate-able arguement that the COBAP boxer is far off his best judging by his three fights in season three despite the experience gained in South Africa as Bombers Captain at the Mandela Boxing Championship.

The first in Week 3 against Edward Mukwaya famously known as Pastor was one that rose more of a debate with numerous fouls that looked unacceptable at some point during the bout.

This highlighted unpreparedness in the eyes of many both in Lugogo and at home on their television but still it was so easy to say Early days in the season.

Going onto his second bout at TLC in Kamwokya a familiar opponent in Simon Sande who looked more like he didn’t have answers like it has always been for the last season years handed Ukasha a dominant and easy win more like a walk in the Park.

With lots of hope held by his fanatics and satisfaction at stake, his third and latest season bout on the night of Saturday 9th November was against Alex Kanaabi and still didn’t leave to the expectation.

This was because Ukasha and dominance on the night didn’t take the same path as KCCA’s Kanaabi was at his best throwing a couple of clever punches while the COBAP man wasn’t therefore he went for power in Golola style

During the bout in Round two Kanaabi was seen complaining to the referee for a bite on the shoulder and Ukasha made the same complaint in the next round but all claims were waved on by the man in charge

At the end of it all, Ukasha in red corner was announced winner by a 4:1 split decision over his opponent, a result that sent some his fans wild and others in a state of question whether he had flattered or genuinely won it.

Looking ahead into his weight category, his biggest challenge is predicted by many to be team mate Nuhu Batte who is regarded as one of the best revelations this season.

In a walk down the Bwaise ghettoes on Friday afternoon when many were in high preparation gear to come watch fan’s favourite Matovu Ukasha, I bumped into Boxing fan Mayega Hafizu who labeled the Welterweight category as weak over the previous editions;

“When you look at all the past two years Champions League has been in existence Welterweight was one of the more competitive categories ” he started

“However this time round before I break it to the world that Ukasha is going to break that Kanaabe’s jaw – at least there has been more improvement” he continued

Adding that; “Pastor hasn’t won yet but he looked a threat at some point, Nuhu Batte is the name that might have a chance to take down Ukasha because they know each-other so well, eat and train together and that is enough competition to look better that last season”

“For the others like Sande, Kanaabi, Kasujja I don’t feel that they have enough to beat him” Mayega concluded

From that, it’s easy to have a conclusion of who the welterweight final at the UMA show grounds will look like on 26th December 2024 with at least a fight left for each boxer in their respective weight.
