American based Falando Jones is part of a twelve-man squad for City Oilers who are representing Uganda in the Road to BAL Elite 16, the last qualification window for the Basketball Africa League season 5.

Having represented the 10 time National Basketball League Champions in the previous BAL edition, Jones was quick to realize that this is a pretty much changed locker room from what he was accustomed to.

“We still have to find the chemistry within ourselves but that will come overtime, we are just trying to take it one day at a time.”

In hindsight, its no longer Mandy Juruni on the bench but Andrew Tendo and three senior players in Tonny Drileba, Jimmy Enabu and James Okello have since left the club, while speaking to CK sports’ Clive Kyaze after practice at the Lugogo arena yesterday, Jones recognised this void.

“Of course we are going to miss Tonny, Jimmy and Oxy they absolute leaders, we have a young team but we are ready, after practice everyone’s confidence was up.”

“I try to get everybody involved and make sure the young fellas do everything we need as a team to get forward.”

The Oilers will be on court on Thursday for their opener against SouthSudan side Fox Sports Basketball in group B and Jones clearly has his focus on qualification.

“We want to make sure we qualify. I’m not worried about the individual awards now, it’s all about the team qualifying.”
