Kitara FC 0-2 Vipers SC – Butema

Vipers SC have been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League after securing a commanding 2-0 victory over Kitara FC on Wednesday evening at the Royal Park in Butema, Hoima.

A first-half goal from youngster Gusto Mulongo and a second-half finish by Yunus Sentamu sealed the crucial three points for the Kitende-based side, lifting them to 68 points thus four ahead of second-placed NEC FC with just one game remaining to wrap up the season.

However NEC FC kept their hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 win over SC Villa at Wankulukuku Stadium but Vipers’ result mathematically eliminated any chance of a late twist, ensuring the Venoms claimed their seventh top-flight title with a game to spare.

With the league title now secured, Vipers will turn their attention to the Uganda Cup semi-final second leg — also against Kitara FC. The Venoms head into that fixture with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, thanks to a Sentamu goal at Kitende.

They will then close their league campaign with a home game against Bright Stars, where celebrations are expected to be in full swing as the champions look to finish the season on a high in front of their fans.

Vipers SC’s 2024/25 triumph not only reaffirms their status as a powerhouse in Ugandan football but also sets the stage for continued success in both domestic and continental competitions.

The title win adds to Vipers SC’s growing legacy in Uganda Football, joining their previous league triumphs in 2009/10, 2014/15, 2017/18, 2019/20, 2021/22, and 2022/23.
