Uganda Premier League
- Vipers SC Vs Lugazi FC – Kitende, 7 PM
After suffering a shocking 1-0 defeat to SC Villa in their previous game at Wankulukuku Stadium, Vipers SC are eager to return to winning ways as they host Lugazi FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The Venoms currently sit atop the Uganda Premier League table with 49 points, just two ahead of second-placed NEC FC (47 points). With the title race heating up, Vipers are targeting maximum points against Lugazi FC to solidify their lead and keep their championship hopes alive.
Despite their struggles against SC Villa, the Kitende-based side boasts a deep squad with a potent attacking force. They welcome back striker Isaac Ogwang and club captain Milton Kariisa, who join an in-form frontline featuring Allan Okello and Yunus Ssentamu in the hunt for goals.
Their first leg encounter against Lugazi FC ended in a goalless draw at Najjembe, where Vipers struggled to break down a well-organized defense.
Lugazi FC have had a difficult run in their last five matches, managing only two wins while suffering three defeats, including a Uganda Cup exit at the hands of SC Villa. Their away form has also been a concern, having secured just two league wins on the road. As a result, they currently sit in 11th place on the table with 26 points.
Despite these struggles, Lugazi FC assistant coach Efiti Gerald remains optimistic about their chances against Vipers.
“The game we lost at home affected us a lot because it wasn’t the result we wanted. We missed several chances, but we have been working on that, and we are targeting a positive result against Vipers,” said Gerald.
“It’s going to be a tough game against a side that is desperate to bounce back from their previous loss. They are chasing the title, but we are also fighting to avoid relegation, so we are going all in for maximum points.”
Lugazi FC will have a fully fit squad as they travel to Kitende, determined to cause an upset against the league leaders.
