StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC are closing in on the signing of talented forward Herbert Assimwe.

Assimwe is currently a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Wakiso Giants at the end of last season. According to sources close to The Touchline Sports, the Venoms have offered him a two-year contract as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Despite being limited by a knee injury last season, Assimwe still managed to impress—featuring in just six league matches for Wakiso Giants and scoring three goals.

It is also confirmed that the 21-year-old has already joined training with the Kitende-based side, who began their pre-season preparations last month in anticipation of both local and continental assignments.

At Vipers, Assimwe will face stiff competition for a place in the starting lineup, with the club already boasting a strong attacking unit that includes Yunus Sentamu, Kenneth Kimera, Gusto Mulongo, Isaac Ogwang, Mark Yallah, and Annest Ankunda.

If the deal is finalized, Assimwe will become the fifth new addition to the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season, following the arrivals of Enock Ssebagala, Odili Chukwuma, Yallah, and Kevin Dasylva Bady.
